Samsung Health is the most generous Android-side data archive. It stores steps, sleep, heart rate, HRV, stress, body composition, exercise, nutrition, and (uniquely) clinically-relevant medical logs like blood pressure and blood glucose. Many wearables ignore those medical fields entirely. Samsung Health's export process shifted around 2023–2024 with several re-names, which is why this guide exists. This walkthrough uses the current paths as of 2026.

What Samsung Health records about you
- Steps, distance, active minutes. Daily summaries and minute-level data for paired Galaxy Watch or Wear OS
- Sleep: duration, score, and stages (Light / Deep / REM) when paired with a Samsung wearable
- Heart rate: continuous readings and intraday, plus resting HR trend
- HRV: when paired with a Galaxy Watch 4+
- Stress: Samsung's proprietary stress score, derived from HRV
- Body composition: weight, BMI, body fat %, muscle mass (when paired with a Samsung scale or entered manually)
- Blood pressure: when paired with a Samsung blood-pressure monitor or entered manually
- Blood glucose: when entered manually or via a connected glucometer
- Nutrition: food logs, calorie intake, macro breakdown
- Exercise: workout logs (type, duration, GPS, HR)
- Menstrual cycle tracking: period dates, symptoms, mood
- Account metadata: paired devices, Samsung account info, partnered apps
Two export paths: app request versus server download
- In-app request: Samsung Health app > menu > Settings > Privacy settings (or Data management, depending on version) > "Download personal data"
- Server download: emails a ZIP link within ~24 hours; link expires after a few days
- If you cannot find the menu item, update Samsung Health. The path has been renamed at least twice (2023 and 2024)
- For users in the EU / UK, the same path is also accessible as a GDPR data-portability export
Native export: step by step
- Open the Samsung Health app on your phone.
- Tap the menu icon (≡) and choose Settings.
- Tap "Privacy settings" (or "Data management" on newer versions).
- Select "Download personal data" (or "Export data").
- Pick JSON or CSV: CSV for spreadsheet/Excel, JSON for notebooks.
- Pick the date range, or "All Time" for the full archive.
- Select the data categories you want (Activity, Sleep, Heart, Body, Nutrition, Medical, etc.).
- Tap "Request download". Samsung emails the link when ready (typically within 24 hours).
- Click the link in the email before it expires and save the ZIP.
What is inside the archive: one file per category
- JSON export: one JSON file per category. Com.samsung.health.activity.json, com.samsung.health.sleep.json, com.samsung.health.heart_rate.json, etc.
- CSV export: one CSV per category, with the same internal naming. Opens directly in Excel
- Activity: steps, floors, active minutes, exercise sessions per day
- Sleep: start/end, score, light/deep/REM minutes (when wearable-supported)
- Heart: continuous readings and resting HR
- Body composition: weight, BMI, body fat, muscle mass
- Medical: blood pressure entries (systolic / diastolic / timestamp), blood glucose entries
- Nutrition: food logs with macro breakdown
- Stress: HRV-derived daytime stress score
- User profile: paired devices, account, preferences
Inside a Samsung Health CSV: what each column looks like
- Activity CSV: date, step_count, distance, calories_active, floors_climbed, active_minutes
- Heart rate CSV: timestamp + bpm. One row per reading during wear
- Sleep CSV: start_time, end_time, score, efficiency, awake_min, light_min, deep_min, rem_min. One row per sleep session
- Body composition CSV: timestamp + weight + body_fat_pct + bmi + muscle_mass, etc.
- Medical CSVs (blood pressure / blood glucose): timestamp + systolic + diastolic + pulse (BP), or timestamp + mg/dL + meal_context (glucose)
- Each row corresponds to one entry or one aggregated day, depending on the metric. Heart rate is per-reading, body composition is per-entry
Why Samsung Health's medical fields matter
- Most fitness wearables ignore blood pressure and blood glucose. Samsung Health records both, either via manual entry or connected devices
- This is the only mainstream consumer fitness platform that exports clinically-relevant cardiovascular and metabolic data in a usable format
- For users managing hypertension, pre-diabetes, or PCOS, multi-year blood-pressure and glucose trends in a single CSV are rare and useful
- Treat these columns like the MyFitnessPal notes field. Sensitive medical data, encrypt the folder before uploading anywhere
Health Connect integration (Android): live sync to other apps
- Samsung Health can sync to Android's Health Connect shared store. That means Fitbit, Garmin, Oura, Google Fit, Strava, and any other app that reads Health Connect can pull your Samsung Health data automatically
- Enable Health Connect sync inside Samsung Health > Settings > Connected services > Health Connect for live, ongoing sync
- For one-time analysis or historical lookups, the CSV / JSON download is still the cleanest path
- Health Connect is a Google-managed framework. If you have concerns about Google-side data flow, prefer the manual download path
Combining Samsung Health with Fitbit, Garmin, Oura, MyFitnessPal
- The date columns in each CSV match the date columns in <a href="/guides/fitbit-data-export">Fitbit</a>, <a href="/guides/how-to-export-garmin-connect-data">Garmin</a>, <a href="/guides/how-to-export-strava-data">Strava</a>, <a href="/guides/how-to-export-myfitnesspal-data">MyFitnessPal</a>, and Oura exports. Join by date for a single timeline
- Body composition fields (weight, BMI, body fat) match Apple Health's same-named fields. If you also use Apple Health via a paired app, the values should match
- Stress scores correlate well with Oura's daytime stress field and Fitbit's "Mindfulness" derived metrics
- For serious analysis, load all CSVs into a notebook (pandas / R) keyed by date. You can correlate daily stress with sleep, exercise, nutrition
Where to store it
- Store in a folder named samsung-health-2026-08
- The medical/ fields (blood pressure, blood glucose) are the most sensitive. Encrypt the folder before uploading
- Local encrypted copy on an external SSD (external SSD) using Cryptomator
- Off-site encrypted copy in ProtonDrive (ProtonDrive) or pCloud (pCloud)
- If you track blood pressure or blood glucose, also export annually at minimum. Those longitudinal trends are the data most users regret losing

FAQ
Does downloading my Samsung Health data delete it?
No: the export creates a copy; Samsung Health keeps your data on-device (and on Samsung servers if sync is enabled) until you separately request deletion.
Can I export Samsung Health data from a non-Samsung phone?
In limited cases: Samsung Health is pre-installed only on Samsung phones, but it can be sideloaded on other Android devices. The export paths in the Samsung Health app are the same regardless of phone manufacturer.
What format should I pick: JSON or CSV?
CSV for spreadsheets and most analysis; JSON for notebooks, scripts, and Health Connect-style structured processing.
How long does the Samsung Health export take?
Typically under 24 hours. Very large archives (multi-year, with continuous heart-rate on a Galaxy Watch) can take longer.
Does the export include blood pressure and blood glucose?
Yes: Samsung Health is one of the few consumer platforms that exports clinically-relevant cardiovascular and metabolic data. Manual entries and connected-device readings are both included.
Should I use the server download or the in-app request?
Both produce the same archive. The in-app request is the simpler option on a Samsung phone; the server path is the right fallback if Samsung Health has been uninstalled or the phone is lost (you can install the app fresh on another device, sign in, and request).
Does Samsung Health sync with Health Connect?
Yes: enable sync under Settings > Connected services > Health Connect. Once on, other Android health apps (Fitbit, Garmin, Oura, Google Fit, Strava) can read your Samsung Health data via the Health Connect shared store.
Can I export Samsung Health data if I have lost access to my phone?
Partially: the device-side data is gone, but the server-side personal archive (if sync was enabled) is recoverable. Sign in to a fresh Samsung Health install on another device, request the export, and you will get what was synced.
