Export Google Gemini Data: Chats & Gems via Takeout (2026)

Exporting Gemini data via Google Takeout is straightforward once you know the trick: your chat history and your Gems live in two different places in Takeout, and selecting only one means you miss half your data.

What Gemini stores

  • All your conversations with Gemini — prompts, responses, timestamps
  • Generated images and media created during sessions
  • Files and documents you uploaded to Gemini
  • Gems you created (custom AI configurations)
  • Gemini Extensions activity

The common mistake

In Google Takeout, there is a "Gemini" entry and a "My Activity" entry. Most people select "Gemini" and think they are done.

The "Gemini" checkbox exports your Gems data only. Your conversation history is stored under "My Activity" with a Gemini Apps filter.

To get everything, you need both.

Step-by-step export

  1. Go to takeout.google.com and sign in.
  2. Click "Deselect all".
  3. Check "Gemini" — this covers your Gems data.
  4. Check "My Activity".
  5. Click "All activity data included" under My Activity.
  6. In the pop-up, click "Deselect all".
  7. Check only "Gemini Apps", then click "OK".
  8. Click "Next step".
  9. Choose delivery method, ZIP format, and archive size.
  10. Click "Create export" and wait for the email.

What is inside the export

  • My Activity / Gemini Apps — full conversation log with timestamps
  • Gemini folder — your saved Gems (custom model configurations)
  • Any generated images or uploaded files associated with sessions

FAQ

Why does selecting only "Gemini" in Takeout give me an incomplete export?

The "Gemini" checkbox exports your Gems only, not conversation history. Chat history is under My Activity > Gemini Apps.

Does exporting delete my Gemini history?

No. Export and deletion are separate actions.
