Untappd is the beer check-in app, and it keeps a detailed record of what you drank, where, when, and which venues you have been through. The export is a paid feature called Insider, so a free account has two routes: pay, or use the EU and EEA data rights route to get it free by post, which takes considerably longer and costs nothing.

Before you start
- Work out which route applies to you. There are three, and picking the wrong one wastes a subscription or a week of waiting.
- Route one, you have an active Untappd Insider subscription. The export is self-serve and immediate to request, whatever country you are in.
- Route two, you are in the EU or EEA. You do not need Insider and you do not need to pay. Untappd will release your data on request under GDPR.
- Route three, you are neither, and you do not want to subscribe. Skip to the scrapers further down this page.
- Sign in at untappd.com on a computer. The beer history export is easier to find and read on a screen with a keyboard.
How to download
- With Insider: open your profile picture menu, then Settings, then the Exportable Data section. The same export is also reachable from the Beer History tab on your profile, which is where Untappd's help centre points you.
- Select what you want and submit the request.
- With Insider you can usually download straight away, or get a link by email. Write down when you requested it.
- Without Insider, and in the EU/EEA: open a support ticket and ask for your data. Ask plainly, cite the GDPR right to data portability, and give the email address on the account.
- Download whatever arrives before any link expires, and keep the file rather than just the confirmation email.
Pro tip
The export is not open to everyone. Untappd's own wording is that requesting data from the beer history tab requires an Insider subscription, so if you are outside the EU/EEA and not paying for Insider, the export is not the route. A GDPR request to their support works instead, and so do a couple of open-source scrapers. The API is not an option any more: Untappd now requires a commercial agreement for API access, which has quietly killed most of the third-party analytics tools that used to read your check-ins.
After the download
- The check-in history is the thing worth keeping. It is a CSV with one row per beer: what, where, when, ABV, IBU, rating and any photo you attached.
- Badges are a nice historical record and take up no space at all. Keep them.
- Lists and friends are the two most commonly missed, and lists in particular are work that took real effort to assemble.
- If you went the scraper route rather than the official one, keep the script you used. You will want to re-run it in a year and it is worth not re-deriving the setup.
- For a free route that does not need Insider, UntappdScraper on GitHub exports your check-in history to CSV plus a folder of photos, and reads the data in your browser rather than on Untappd's servers.
- Moving from Untappd to a different beer app? Bruwia accepts your full check-in history as an import and does not require Insider or a GDPR request. See our move from Untappd to Bruwia guide for the steps.
- The menu history on a venue page is a separate thing and exports as its own CSV, without needing Insider. Venue owners get analytics; anyone can take their own menu history.
