Perplexity does not yet offer a self-serve bulk export the way ChatGPT and Claude do. If you are a Pro user you may find a built-in export option in your account settings. Everyone else can request their data via email under GDPR or CCPA, which Perplexity is legally required to honour within 30 days. This guide covers both paths and the manual fallback if neither works.

Everything Perplexity records about you
Perplexity keeps a full record of every search you run and every conversation thread you start. This includes your original query, the AI response, any follow-up questions, and your Shared Conversations if you used that feature.
- Every search query and its AI-generated answer
- All conversation threads: not just the final answer but the full back-and-forth
- Saved items and collections you have bookmarked inside Perplexity
- Account profile information and preferences
- Any files you have uploaded to Perplexity Pro
- Shared conversation links you have created
Two export routes: built-in and legal email
There is no single self-serve export button that works for everyone. Perplexity currently offers a built-in export for some Pro accounts, and a legal email route for everyone else. Both are covered below.
Option 1: Pro users: self-serve export in Settings
- Go to perplexity.ai/account/details and sign in.
- Click your profile icon in the top-right corner and select Settings.
- Open the Account tab.
- Look for the "Export my data" button. If it is there, click it.
- Perplexity will email a download link to your registered address.
- Download the export and save it somewhere safe.
- The link expires: download promptly.
Option 2: Email a legal data request (all users)
If the self-serve option is not available in your account, GDPR and CCPA give you the right to request your data by email. Perplexity is legally required to respond and fulfil the request within 30 days.
- Email privacy@perplexity.ai
- Subject line: "Data Export Request"
- State your full name and the email address registered to your Perplexity account
- Mention GDPR or CCPA explicitly to trigger the legal obligation
- Send from the email address registered to your account. They may verify it
- You should receive a confirmation within a few days and the data within 30 days
Manual fallback: copy threads one by one
Perplexity does not yet have a comprehensive self-serve bulk export for all account types. As a workaround you can manually export individual threads using the built-in Share and Copy options.
- Open a thread you want to preserve in Perplexity.
- Click the Share icon (or Copy icon) on the thread.
- Copy the shared link or the thread text to a document.
- Paste it into a notes file organised by date.
- Repeat for any threads you want to keep.
- This is manual and time-consuming: use it only as a fallback while waiting for a proper export.
What the Perplexity archive contains
If you receive a data export from Perplexity, it will generally come as a ZIP or JSON file containing:
- Account information: email, username, account creation date
- Full conversation history: all threads with timestamps
- Search history: every query you have run
- Saved items and collections
- Shared conversation links you have created
After downloading: review, delete, store
Your Perplexity export contains a complete record of your searches and conversations. Review it for anything sensitive before archiving.
- Check for sensitive searches: financial queries, medical questions, personal information
- Review any shared links and decide whether to keep them active
- Delete individual threads from Perplexity if you no longer want them stored (Settings > Account > Delete history)
- Store the export in encrypted cloud storage: ProtonDrive (ProtonDrive) or pCloud (pCloud)
- Keep a dated copy alongside exports from your other AI tools so everything is in one place on your next Digital Takeout Day
How to delete your Perplexity history
Exporting does not delete anything. If you want to remove your history from Perplexity servers, you can do it in Settings.
- Go to Settings > Account.
- Find "Delete history" or similar option.
- Delete individual threads or your full history.
- Note: Perplexity may retain data for a period after deletion as part of their standard retention policies.

FAQ
Does Perplexity have a bulk export like ChatGPT?
Not universally. Some Pro users see an "Export my data" button at perplexity.ai/account/details, but free users and users without that option must email privacy@perplexity.ai with a GDPR or CCPA request.
How long does a GDPR data request take with Perplexity?
Legally 30 days. You should receive a confirmation within a few days and the data file within 30 calendar days.
Does the export include threads I deleted?
Probably not: deleted threads are typically removed from your account before export.
Can I export my saved items and collections?
If you receive a data export, it should include saved items and collections. For the manual workaround, saved items must be copied individually.
Does exporting delete my Perplexity history?
No. The export is a copy. Your history stays in Perplexity unless you separately delete it.
What if I used Perplexity through the API?
API conversations are stored by you (or the API provider), not by Perplexity. They will not appear in a Perplexity account export.
Is there a way to export without email?
Pro users may have a self-serve option as described above. Otherwise, emailing a formal GDPR/CCPA request is currently the only formal route.
