Before you start
- Open WhatsApp Mobile App
- Go to Settings > Advanced
How to download
- Select "Export Chat" (Note: This exports ONE chat or ALL chats via "Without Media" option)
- For full account data, request via "Request Account Info" feature in Settings > Account
- Wait for the "Request Account Info" report (can take up to 30 days)
Pro tip
The chat export includes media. If you have years of photos/videos in chats, the file will be huge. Consider excluding media if you just want text.
After the download
- Import the text file into a local client like "WhatsApp Viewer" if you want to search years of chats efficiently
- Delete the report from WhatsApp servers
