Snapchat is where people send photos and videos meant to disappear, and the data export is the one place they do not. You get the snaps themselves, your chats, your Memories, and a location history considerably longer and more precise than you would expect from an app built on the idea that things vanish. The media is the slow part: a few years of snaps is a large download.

Before you start

  1. Go to snapchat.com/accounts
  2. Navigate to "My Data"

How to download

  1. Click "Submit Request"
  2. Wait for the email (up to 24h)
  3. Download the ZIP file from the email link

Pro tip

Memories are the most valuable export — these are the only Snaps that are saved long-term. Chat history only retains messages not already deleted by either party.

After the download

  • Delete Snap Map location history
  • Review "Ad Preferences" data
