Before you start

  1. Option A — Native export: Go to fitbit.com and log in, then navigate to Settings > Data Export
  2. Option B — Full archive: Go to takeout.google.com, click "Deselect all", then select "Fitbit"

How to download

  1. Native export: Choose a time period, select data types, choose format (CSV or JSON), click Download
  2. Google Takeout: Proceed with the standard Takeout flow, click "Create export", wait for the email
  3. Download the archive — large accounts can take a few days to prepare

Pro tip

Fitbit is now owned by Google, so there are two export paths: the native Fitbit export and Google Takeout. Use both for complete coverage.

After the download

  • Sleep stage and heart rate JSON files are some of the most sensitive health data you own
  • Store an encrypted local copy on an external HD
  • Store an off-site encrypted copy in ProtonDrive
  • If you are leaving Fitbit, TCX files from GPS workouts can be imported into Garmin Connect
