Before you start

Open claude.ai in your browser and sign in
Click your initials in the bottom-left corner
Select "Settings" from the menu
Navigate to the "Privacy" section

How to download

Click "Export Data" under the Privacy section
Confirm when prompted
Wait for the email from Anthropic (usually arrives within minutes)
Download the archive immediately — the link expires after 24 hours

Pro tip

The export download link expires after 24 hours — download it immediately when the email arrives. The JSON is not human-readable out of the box; you will need a viewer or script to browse your chats. Note: Claude's memory and Projects data are not included in the standard export, only raw conversation history.

After the download

Open the JSON to verify conversations are present
Note: Claude memory and Projects data are not included — those must be managed separately in the app
If you are on a Team or Enterprise plan, only the workspace owner can export org-wide data from Organization Settings
Store the archive in ProtonDrive or pCloud for an off-site backup
